Plan your perfect conversion

If you want to be involved in your loft conversion then use our handy guide below to help you plan your perfect loft. Prefer to sit back and relax? No problem you can let Sussex Lofts organise your entire loft conversion from start to finish, just contact us and we will take care of the rest.

1. Assess your space

Inspect your loft space and check its suitability for a conversion by measuring the head height and pitch. Take a measurement from the bottom of the ridge timber to the top of the ceiling joist; the useable part of the roof should be greater than 2.2m. If you require any help measuring the suitability of your loft space please contact us and we will be happy to come and take a look.

2. Architect

Next contact a qualified architect to confirm the suitability of your loft for your desired conversion. Once all the assessments are carried out the plans will be drawn up. A good architect will organise your structural calculations and building control.

We work closely with local architects who we would highly recommend, please contact us to find out more.

3. Planning permission & Building Regs

If your loft conversion requires planning permission your plans will be submitted to your local council to gain approval. All of our work is inspected by an independent building control to ensure the build meets the latest regulations. The building control will inspect the site throughout the project.

4. Contact Sussex Lofts

Now your plans are drawn and approved Sussex Lofts will come and talk to you about bringing your loft to life and most importantly book a slot in our ever increasing schedule.

We also offer a structure only service, which allows your inner DIY skills to take control. We can hand over the reigns after we have constructed the fully weathered outer shell and a fitted staircase for you.
